Top 10 Moving Tips
1. Establish a set schedule for moving.
The more organized you are when moving in general, the more time and energy you will have at your disposal during this process. Try to plan in advance, and schedule your activities in a way that will help you feel more relaxed and less stressed.
2. Bring along your favorite music and/or television shows to listen to or watch.
If you have something that can help distract you from the day’s moving events, it will make things a lot easier when it is time for your moving company to unload the truck.
3. Free time!
Make sure that everyone in the household has a chance to take time off work or school so that they can help with the move. This will save you money, as well as give people some time off after the move is over.
4. A little bit of help.
If you are having professional movers help you, go with a company that has been recommended to you by a close friend or colleague. If your friend’s experience went well, they may be able to point out the advantages of using that moving company. Ask them about their experience with the service, and how it could apply to your own situation.
5. Map out possible routes for how your moving truck(s) will access the home.
Also map out what streets you are going to have to take so that there will be room for the truck to move around freely.
6. If you are moving with a family member or friend, take some time before the move to map out a plan for packing and unpacking everything.
This can save you time in the long run. Make sure that everyone is aware of what they are supposed to do in your moving plan!
7. Cleaning time!
Make arrangements for a cleaning company to come in after you have finished your moving process. Cleaning up after a move can be a lot of work, so it is best to leave it for professionals. You can get multiple quotes from different companies before making your final choice.
Make sure that everyone is aware of where the garbage cans are located in your new home. Make sure to throw out all of the packing materials that you have used throughout your move, as well as throw away any boxes that you have leftover from past moves. Also make sure to do a thorough cleaning of the outside, inside, and underneath your furniture.
If you are fortunate enough to have pets with you during a move, make sure that they get plenty of exercise during this time. This will allow them to stay healthy once they settle into their new home.
10. Try to find someone that can help you with moving day itself if possible.
This person can assist you with getting out the old furniture, and even help with moving the new furniture in.
You can prepare for moving in many ways...
But planning ahead is essential. It will make the process easier when you’re ready to start!
